After instigating a verbal altercation with Trent Seven by claiming the rest of the NXT UK Superstars were simply “average,” Zack Gibson went one-on-one with Liverpool’s No. 1 in NXT UK’s main event.

Gibson opted to retreat from the powerful chops of his opponent in the early goings, but Tyler Bate emerged to block his exit, opening the door for Seven to continue his onslaught inside and outside the ring. Gibson reclaimed the advantage with a double chop to the throat, which allowed him to go to work on the left elbow and shoulder with a strategic series of painful maneuvers.

Seven absorbed Gibson’s attack and returned fire with a new round of fierce chops. He then absorbed Gibson’s enzuigiri before delivering a right-hand slap that knocked his opponent out of the ring and to the ringside floor, quickly leaping through the ropes after him.

Back in the ring, Seven hit a snapdragon suplex and a powerbomb, which set up the single-leg crab on Gibson, but Gibson clawed his way to the ropes. He regained the advantage momentarily before the resilient Seven fired back, setting the stage for an intense back-and-forth between the two competitors. Gibson leveled his nemesis with the Ticket-to-Ride, but the never-say-die Seven kicked out of his pin attempt. Then, Gibson locked in the Shankly Gates, which nearly caused Seven to tap, but he fought though the agonizing pain to reach the ropes.

In a moment of frustration, Gibson put his boot on the nearby Bate, bringing the former WWE U.K Champion up on the apron. Seven used this distraction to hit the Seven Stars Lariat on Gibson for the near-fall.

As the action continued in the ring, James Drake suddenly emerged to hurl Bate into the steel ring steps. And moments later, when Seven was trying to perhaps turn Gibson for the single-leg crab, Gibson countered with the small package. As he did, Drake reached out his hand and gave Gibson extra leverage that allowed Liverpool’s No. 1 to pick up the controversial victory.

And as the victor and his devious cohort were making their way to the backstage area, Wolfgang and The Coffey Brothers suddenly attacked Moustache Mountain from behind and unleashed an all-out slaughter on the former NXT Tag Team Champions.

Tyler Bate def. James Drake
Tyler Bate broke from Moustache Mountain for the night to compete in a singles match against James Drake. From the start, Drake went with his signature unpredictable approach and brought the aggression while attacking his opponent inside and outside the ring, a sequence that was highlighted by an earth-shattering dropkick in the corner that nearly took the former U.K. Champion’s head off and almost gave Drake the biggest win of his career.

Nevertheless, the resilient Bate would not abate, and after dodging Drake’s attack in the corner and repelling himself off the ropes for the familiar lariat in the final moments of the hard-fought match, Bate finished off his opponent with the Tyler Driver ‘97.

Moustache Mountain def. Saxon Huxley & Sam Gradwell
After throwing down the gauntlet on every emerging tag team in NXT UK, former NXT Tag Team Champions Tyler Bate & Trent Seven reemerged to take on newly formed tandem of Saxon Huxley & Sam Gradwell.

From the jump, Huxley & Gradwell showed impressive cohesion as a tag team when Huxley pushed his opponent to the ground and Gradwell used a distraction to attack Seven outside the ring. They then proceeded to cut the ring in half with absolute brutality to prevent Bate from getting in on the action.

That all changed when Seven neutralized his opponents before dodging out of the way and sending both Huxley & Gradwell crashing to the ringside floor. He then tagged in Bate, who launched himself over the ropes to take out both foes like a human catapult.

Back in the ring, Bate took charge of Huxley, using his incredible agility to execute a Standing Shooting Star for a near-fall. Seven reemerged to attempt the Snap Dragon Suplex, but Huxley thwarted that effort, tagging in Gradwell, who quickly propped up Seven for Huxley to hit a unique Backstabber into Gradwell’s Single-leg Crab.

In response, Bate charged in and used Huxley as a human battering ram to nail Gradwell and break up the submission. Seven’s spinning backfist staggered Gradwell enough to prevent him from seeing Bate get tagged into the match. And, in the final moments, Bate and Seven used this advantage to hit a Snap Dragon Suplex, and Moustache Mountain emerged victorious in their first tag team outing.

Tyler Bate def. Wolfgang
Much to the pleasure of the passionate UK fans, the very first competitor to wear the United Kingdom Championship, Tyler Bate, engaged Wolfgang in NXT UK’s main event.

Despite Wolfgang boasting an 80-pound advantage, the gutsy Bate challenged The Big Brawling Scotsman to a test of strength and did reasonably well before knocking Wolfgang back with a surprise dropkick.

When Bate attempted an airplane spin, however, his larger adversary made him pay for it with a fierce assault that grounded the former titleholder. Although he fought back, Tate’s war-torn midsection prevented him from reclaiming the advantage against his powerful adversary. Instead, Wolfgang concentrated his attack on Bate’s rib area before finally cinching in the bear hug. Bate would break free, though, unleashing a barrage of strikes, and after connecting with a flying elbow off the turnbuckle, he proceeded to use the ropes like a slingshot to deliver three high-octane clotheslines. Bate then hit his second airplane spin attempt and the Standing Star Press, but that still wasn’t enough to defeat Wolfgang, who powered back by throwing Bate over his head and hitting a massive Spear for the near-fall.

The competitors took their fight to new heights — literally — duking it out atop the turnbuckle. Wolfgang missed the Flying Senton, clearing the way for Bate to close him out with a wicked Tyler Driver ’97 for the big victory.

Spoilers

– The Coffey Brothers with Wolfgang cut an in-ring promo. They tell the crowd that NXT UK is their Kingdom. The fans disagree. Travis Banks comes out to interrupt the promo but is overpowered. Moustache Mountain hit the ring and even out the numbers, sending the Coffeys and Wolfgang reeling from the ring.

Wolfgang vs. Travis Banks
The crowd were firmly behind Banks in this hard-hitting contest. The Coffeys tried to interfere on behalf of Wolfgang but were countered when Moustache Mountain hit the ring, assisting Banks with a pin over Wolfgang.

Joe Coffey vs. Trent Seven
Portsmouth loved Moustache Mountain but Coffey was no pushover. The two big men traded blows and chops, and Coffey gained the advantage with a headbut to the mid section. This was British Strong Style. The action inevitably spilled over to include the accompanying Tyler Bate, Wolfgang, and Mark Coffey, but action was restored and the match continued.

A superplex loomed sure to put Coffey away but he kicked out in the nick of time. This would set off a series of near falls and the familiar but well deserved “This is Awesome” chant. Coffey then slammed Seven to the outside of the ring with a belly-to-belly suplex. This was undoubtedly the match of the night, and finally ended when Coffey pinned Seven following a stiff lariat.
