NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4

NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed ERA def. Moustache Mountain
The old saying is: If you’re going through hell, keep going. That might apply to The Undisputed ERA in a way they didn’t anticipate. The NXT Tag Team Champions’ grueling defense against Moustache Mountain may end up being little more than a five-star appetizer en route to a feast by the War Raiders, who made good on their promise to target whoever left NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV as Tag Team Champions.

If Undisputed ERA’s destiny is to defend the titles against the War Raiders, however, they certainly earned the honor. Moustache Mountain came to Brooklyn more than prepared for the champions’ chicanery, with Tyler Bate & Trent Seven excellent both individually and in tandem. It was a performance as well-oiled as their ’staches, but what they weren’t prepared for was Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong’s tenacity.

Both the Tyler Driver ’97 and Seven Stars Lariat failed to earn pinfalls, as did their tandem kneedrop-Burning Hammer combo. Inevitably, Moustache Mountain found themselves in a mirror image of their title loss, with Bate trapped in an agonizing heel hook and Seven narrowly convincing himself not to throw in the towel. Bate managed to muscle his way back to Seven to tag in, but his damaged leg left him just hindered enough for Strong to blast him out of the ring with a knee. UE quickly transitioned to a High-Low to Seven, putting him down for a successful pinfall. That’s when the War Raiders struck, obliterating O’Reilly & Strong in a beatdown that seems to foretell disaster for the champions down the line. Suffice it to say, retaining the NXT Tag Team Titles may be the worst decision The Undisputed ERA ever made.

WWE NXT – August 15

Tyler Bate def. Roderick Strong
Moustache Mountain and NXT Tag Team Champions Undisputed ERA will have to wait until Saturday to duke it out over the black-and-yellow brand’s tandem titles, but that didn’t stop Tyler Bate and Roderick Strong from tearing into each other with fervor in a topsy-turvy singles bout on the final stop to TakeOver: Brooklyn 4.

As can now be safely assumed when any combination of these four Superstars are in action, the match was a high-voltage, hard-hitting affair that left the NXT Universe breathless. Bate and Strong’s respective teammates, Trent Seven and Kyle O’Reilly, were seconding their partners at ringside, and O’Reilly made sure Bate knew it, distracting “Textbook” Tyler early in the contest to give Strong the chance to pull ahead.

Bate remained resilient and stayed one step ahead of the Undisputed ERA member as the battle reached a fever pitch, out-reversing the NXT Tag Team Champion and clobbering him with a clothesline before hitting him with a spectacular dive over the top rope in the waning moments.

O’Reilly tried to stall Bate, causing Seven to go after O’Reilly and, subsequently, Strong to nail The Don with a dropkick through the ropes. Strong then decimated Bate with an enzuigiri, but Bate fought back with a rolling capo kick before ending Strong’s night with a Tyler Driver ’97.

Undisputed ERA may enter Brooklyn’s Barclays Center with the NXT Tag Team Titles this Saturday, but following Bate’s victory against Strong, there’s no doubt that Moustache Mountain will have momentum on their side.

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 Preview

NXT Tag Team Champions Undisputed ERA vs. Moustache Mountain
After trading the NXT Tag Team Titles in two of the most incredible bouts the black-and-yellow brand has ever seen, reigning champions Undisputed ERA and challengers Moustache Mountain get set to make history again at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4.

Bastions of British Strong Style Tyler Bate & Trent Seven upended Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly to win the tandem titles on their home turf in June at the NXT UK Championship special in London. Strong & O’Reilly didn’t wait long to invoke their rematch, and when the time came on the July 11 edition of WWE NXT, Undisputed ERA were at their vicious best. Strong & O’Reilly used surgical precision to attack Seven’s leg, and after suffering a prolonged onslaught, The Don was saved by Bate, who had no choice but to throw in the towel and protect his teammate (even though it meant forfeiting the titles).

Seven now claims to be back at full health, and he and Bate have one objective in mind: regaining the prestigious NXT Tag Team Championship. Undisputed ERA don’t appear too worried, at least not yet, with Strong & O’Reilly proclaiming that the devastation that befell Seven on July 11 isn’t anything compared to what they have in store for him at TakeOver.

Can Moustache Mountain bounce back and take the NXT Tag Team Titles by force? Or are Seven & Bate in for a rude awakening at the hands of the hard-hitting, back-breaking champions?

Don’t miss this title conflict when NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 streams live Saturday, Aug. 18, at 7 ET/4 PT, exclusively on the award-winning WWE Network!

WWE NXT – August 1

Moustache Mountain def. Matt Knotts & Brandon Taylor
When the NXT Universe last saw Moustache Mountain, Trent Seven was relegated to crutches, and both he and Tyler Bate were visibly gutted over losing the NXT Tag Team Titles to Undisputed ERA.

Any despair that once existed was gone and replaced by an inextinguishable fighting spirit this week. Proving to be in fine fighting form, the bastions of British Strong Style confounded their opponents, Matt Knotts & Brandon Taylor, with their tag team wizardry. After delivering a bevvy of big hits, Moustache Mountain put Taylor down for the count with a double-team knee drop/Burning Hammer combination.

After their impactful win, Moustache Mountain informed the NXT Universe that they are coming for Undisputed ERA’s Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly, announcing that they will invoke their NXT Tag Team Championship rematch at TakeOver: Brooklyn 4!

WWE NXT – July 25

NXT North American Champion Adam Cole showed that he’s on another level against Sean Maluta, downing the Cruiserweight Classic alum in short order thanks to his devastating final blow, the Last Shot. Cole’s night, however, was far from over.

After the win, The Panama City Playboy boasted that he is the most buzzworthy Superstar in sports-entertainment, prompting Ricochet to enter the scene. The One and Only accused Cole of ducking his challenge, called Cole a “coward” and dared the Undisputed ERA front man to change his mind by agreeing to a title match against him at TakeOver: Brooklyn 4.

Cole dodged the challenge and opted for an exit, though he grew emboldened as soon as NXT Tag Team Champions Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong arrived as backup. As the trio began to move on The One and Only, The War Raiders, their sights clearly set on O’Reilly & Strong’s tag title gold, marched into Full Sail Live.

Undisputed ERA’s flight response kicked in, but before they took their leave through the NXT Universe, another tandem with championship ambitions, Moustache Mountain, cut them off at the pass. Tyler Bate & Trent Seven landed a few strikes before Cole, O’Reilly & Strong finally ran for the hills. Everybody, it appears, wants a piece of Undisputed ERA.
